Basic / Intermediate Manners Canine Good Citizen Preparation Classes ( this class or equivalent skills is a prerequisite for the Therapy Dog Class)

The behaviors and techniques in this six-week class include the every-day good manners we all want our dogs to have. We cover all the areas of good behavior covered in the Canine Good Citizen test offered by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Any dog, mixed breed, hybrid, designer or All-American, can earn a CGC certificate.

The exercises taught in this class are wonderful basic manners which will work well in everyday life. For example, your dog should stay quietly by your side while you hold a conversation with another person. Allow greeting by a friendly stranger, come when called and walk on a loose leash.  Sounds great, right?

Some apartment buildings will only allow dogs with this certification and some homeowners insurance companies will give discounts on policies when the dog has successfully earned the CGC title.

We build on the skills your dog already has without pressure. Testing is offered at the end of class by a Certified AKC CGC evaluator.

Therapy Dog Test Preparation

Does your dog love meeting new people?  Does he or she like going to new places?  Are people naturally drawn to pet your dog?  If you answered yes to any of these questions you and your dog may enjoy being a Therapy Dog Team.

Would you like to have your dog have the Canine Good Citizen Title?

The dog training techniques in this class include the everyday good manners we all want our dogs to have. It focuses on all the areas of good behavior covered in the Therapy Dog certification test.

The exercises taught in this class are also wonderful basic manners that will work well in everyday life. For example, wouldn't you want your dog to stay quietly by your side while you hold a conversation with another person? Allow greeting by a friendly stranger, come when called and walk on a loose leash.  Sounds great, right? We will also be teaching fun tricks useful in Therapy Dog work.

Therapy dog work is a wonderful way to give back to your community and spend quality time with your dog.  In addition to a great temperament, a therapy dog has to have excellent manners.  This class will prepare you for most national therapy dog tests.  Testing with a national therapy dog organization is available.
